Aberrations came about during a period when FLVZ was exploring resampling and just how far samples could be time stretched, distorted, twisted, warped and abused whilst still being useable in a musical context.

“Saturnian” (the third track on the EP) is an exploration of ambience and textures with initially subtle use of percussion providing scattering textures over synths laced in contrastingly shifting rhythmic reverbs in the stereo space.

“Aberration II” is the polar opposite - with much more obvious use of drums, percussion both glitched and bit crushed for added unapologetic bite, if the washed out cymbal crashes and the growling lead synth were not enough bite for you already that is!

“Aberration”, the second piece of the project, is a combination of the previous two approaches. Starting out with what sound like a swarm of bees heading rhythmically in your direction. Bees seasoned in lots of delay, reverb and distortion of course!

The concoction of noise, glitches and ambience builds until THUD come the heavy gargling, growling drums laced in God knows what! A glitched, robotic, up down cycle motif is really accentuated, and helps Aberration make sense as the title track on the project.

“Aberrations” is very much about unapologetic sonics, stylistic explorations and decisions.

The remixes featured are predominantly artists I've encountered on my travels performing live and was keen to work with and see how they reinterpret my track Aberration II.
